Internal Revenue Service (IRS)

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is the government agency of the United States that is mainly responsible for collecting taxes and enforcing tax laws. It was established in 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln. It currently operates under the U.S. Department of the Treasure, and its main role is to collect employment and individual income taxes. The IRS is also responsible for handling gift, excise, corporate, and estate taxes.
