Participating Preferred

This refers to a type of security that gives the holder certain rights to participate in the company’s profits, which includes both regular and special dividends that are paid out. Participating preferred shareholders usually have a higher priority over common shareholders in terms of receiving assets if the company becomes bankrupt. If the company liquidates, participating preferred shareholders usually receive their initial investment before the common shareholders.
