Portfolio Company

A portfolio company is a company that can either be private or public that a venture capital firm, holding company, or buyout firm owns equity. In simple terms, companies that private equity firms hold an interest in are considered as portfolio companies. The goal of the investor is to increase the value of the portfolio company and in turn, earn a return on investment through a sale.
