What is a landmark event?

A landmark event is a specific milestone or condition, the occurrence of which leads to the satisfaction of a vesting "trigger" in an equity plan. It is usually used as the second trigger in a double-trigger RSU system. A common landmark event is an initial public offering (IPO) or the third-party acquisition of the company.

As used in the double-trigger RSUs, a landmark event is an event that triggers the payout of equity to all RSU awardees.
